5 children-approved recipes to try at home this summer

This season offers lots of entertainment options outdoors; however, it’s convenient to have indoor options as well for rainy days and sick days. Moreover, summer can be the perfect time to safely introduce your children to kitchen activities and test their cooking interests.

With all safety considerations taken care of, an afternoon in the kitchen can keep your children busy with a fun and educational activity. Are your little chefs ready? Let’s start with 5 of the easiest and most delicious recipes any child can try (under adults surveillance and guidance, of course)

Pepperoni piza puffs

ingredients

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup cubed pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup store-bought pizza sauce

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 24-cup mini-muffin pan. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and red pepper flakes (if using) ; whisk in the milk and egg. Stir in the mozzarella, Parmesan and pepperoni; let stand for 10 minutes.

2. Stir the batter and divide among the mini-muffin cups. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until they’re puffed and golden,

3. Meanwhile, microwave the pizza sauce until it’s warmed through. Serve the puffs with the pizza sauce for dipping.

cheerios treats

Ingredients

• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup corn syrup
• 1 cup creamy peanut butter
• 1 tablespoon vanilla
• 5 cups Cheerios

  1. In a large sauce pan, combine sugar and corn syrup. Bring to boil over medium heat. Allow the mixture to boil for one minute and remove from heat.
  2. Add peanut butter and vanilla to mixture and mix until smooth. Add Cheerios and mix until all are coated.
  3. Drop the mixture by spoonful onto waxed paper and allow to cool. Makes approximately 2 dozen.

vanilla cookies

ingredientes

  • 500 grams flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 250 grams butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla, (or coconut, lemon, almond, lemon zest, whtever you prefer)
  1. The powders (flour, salt, baking powder) are mixed and sifted.
  2. In a blender, put the butter to cream together with sugar at medium speed for 5 minutes. Add the essence, the egg and, finally, put the flour for a moment; DO NOT beat too much, collect the edges of dough with a spatula and mix again for 1 more minute.
  3. It is crushed by crushing it and refrigerated for 30 minutes.
  4.  Join the dough with your fingers and put edges of chopsticks (for the thickness) to cut from the same height.
  5. You put flour on the counter, spread the dough in the center of the chopsticks and cut the figure.
  6. bake in an oven at 350 degrees (10 to 12 minutes). Makes 24 units approximately

lemon pie

ingredients

  • 30 cookies
  • 1?4 cup of melted margarine
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon powder
  • 2 cans of condensed milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (sifted)

Dough:

The cookies are processed or milled until they’re powdered, then the melted margarine is added together with the cinnamon powder. Mix well and put the base in the mold to be used, pressing it with the hand so that the crust is firm at the time of serving. Put it inside the pre heated oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Filling:

The condensed milk is liquefied with the yolks and the lemon juice. Put this preparation on the base of the baked cookies.

Meringue:

Beat the whites for 5 minutes at high speed. until peaks are formed and you see it’s about to snow. Add little by little the Cream of Tartar and sugar, as well as 2 more sugar cubes; put the meringe on the previous preparation using a nozzle #12 and peaks are formed upwards in the whole dessert, put it back in the oven until the meringue turn brown (oven at 180 degrees fpr 15 minutes).

bacon muffins

ingredients

  • 200 grams bacon
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 4 tablespoons butter without melted salt
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yougurt
  • 3/4 grated Gruyere cheese

Bake the bacon until it browns, remove it from the heat and put it on absorbent paper until coool. Put salt, flour, and baking powder in a bowl.

In another bowl put the beaten eggs, melted butter, milk, yogurt. Now combine liquids and solids, beaten by hand with a wire whisk, add the cheese and the bacon.

Use cup molds and put one scoop on each division. Bake them in an oven at 350 degrees, for 20 minutes.
